Q2. OSKAR
Oskar Kokoschka, an Austrian abstract expressionist painter,
arrived in England in 1938, after having escaped from the Nazi terror in
Europe. Kokoschka was an artist and had never been a politician, yet he blamed
himself for the dangerous state that Europe was in, later for the catastrophe
of World War II. Why?
Hint…. Kokoschka had fought for Germany in World
War I, but he was not a military man and hated war.
He had applied to study art at
he academy and had succeeded in gaining entry.
He never met Hitler.
Q3. THE FRUIT OF SARCASM
What he had intended to be a sarcastic statement resulted in
an invention that’s now in common use . What is it?
Hint…. A he was displeased with the comments of a
customer.
He deliberately exaggerated
certain aspects of the dish he prepared.
It is now a very popular snack.
Q4. TIMEPIECE
Why are most watches shown in magazines fixed at the time
ten to two or ten past ten?
Hint…. Advertising agencies
prefer a personal, positive, and friendly image. How does ten to two help this?
